How did Sunrise Begin?
In March of 1999, Greg Hanson began to sense God’s
leading to begin a new church. At the time, Greg was serving as the
Associate Pastor of Cornerstone Wesleyan Church in Bedford, Nova
Scotia. He did not know when, how or even where this new church would
begin, but he trusted in God’s wisdom and guidance, and began to
prepare himself for the task before him.
After spending considerable time praying and
dreaming, Greg consulted with the leadership of the Atlantic District
of the Wesleyan Church. Approval was given for a new congregation to be
started. And shortly thereafter, Charlottetown was determined to be the
Greg and Shera moved to Charlottetown in August of
2001 and immediately fell in love with the city. They set about laying
the foundation for what would become Sunrise Wesleyan Church.
The next year consisted of much planning and
networking. Rental facilities needed to be found, equipment needed to
be purchased, and funds needed to be raised. A small group began
meeting together, planning and praying for Sunrise. And on October 20,
2002, Sunrise held it's first public service. A new church was born.
