How did Sunrise Begin?

In March of 1999, Greg Hanson began to sense God’s leading to begin a new church. At the time, Greg was serving as the Associate Pastor of Cornerstone Wesleyan Church in Bedford, Nova Scotia. He did not know when, how or even where this new church would begin, but he trusted in God’s wisdom and guidance, and began to prepare himself for the task before him.

After spending considerable time praying and dreaming, Greg consulted with the leadership of the Atlantic District of the Wesleyan Church. Approval was given for a new congregation to be started. And shortly thereafter, Charlottetown was determined to be the place.

Greg and Shera moved to Charlottetown in August of 2001 and immediately fell in love with the city. They set about laying the foundation for what would become Sunrise Wesleyan Church.

The next year consisted of much planning and networking. Rental facilities needed to be found, equipment needed to be purchased, and funds needed to be raised. A small group began meeting together, planning and praying for Sunrise. And on October 20, 2002, Sunrise held it's first public service. A new church was born.
