Is Sunrise a charismatic church?

If you are asking this question, you are probably wondering if we "speak in tongues" at Sunrise. The answer to that is, no. While we respect that other Christians may disagree, we do not understand the Biblical gift of tongues to refer to ecstatic utterances or a secret prayer language. It is our understanding that "tongues" refers to other earthly languages, as evidenced throughout the New Testament book of Acts.

So can you practice tongues and attend Sunrise? Yes, you can. You are free to "speak in tongues" in private, as you respect our position during our corporate worship times.

In a broader sense, the Greek word "charis" refers to special abilities or gifts of grace distributed by the Holy Spirit (see Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12-14, Ephesians 4, and 1 Peter 4). We do believe these gifts are still given to believers today, including gifts of leadership, mercy, hospitality, teaching, faith, giving, etc.
