What about the sacraments?
About once a month we do serve
communion. Also known as the
Eucharist or The Lord's Supper, this was a practice Jesus began with
His disciples, and it has been passed down through the generations.
We're not into rituals at Sunrise, but this is one that we do practice,
using grape juice and matzo bread. Everyone is welcome to participate
in a respectful manner.
We also follow the tradition of baptism.
We encourage all who have begun a new life with Jesus to be baptized as
an expression of their faith. Infant Baptism (what we call Baby
Dedication) is an act of faith on behalf of the parents. And so even if
you have been baptized as an infant, you should consider baptism as an
expression of your own faith. While we recognize other forms of
baptism, we typically baptize by immersion.
believe every Christian has direct access to God, and therefore should
confess their sins directly to Him. You do not need to go through a
priest or a pastor. However, there is a value in sharing your
weaknesses and struggles within an accountability relationship. In this
type of a relationship, you can admit when you fall, ask for prayer,
and receive encouragement to press on in your spiritual walk with God.
