What's the Wesleyan Church?

Sunrise is one of 64 churches in the Atlantic District of the Wesleyan Church, including the Atlantic provinces and Maine. Worldwide, there are over 5000 congregations of the Wesleyan Church meeting in over 80 countries.

The Wesleyan Church is an evangelical, Protestant denomination. We offer the good news that faith in Jesus Christ makes possible a personal relationship with God. Our name is in honour of John Wesley, the founder of Methodism.

The Wesleyan Church is the result of a merger of several smaller groups of churches, including the Wesleyan Methodist Church, the Pilgrim Holiness Church, and the Reformed Baptist Alliance of Canada. These like-minded groups date back as far as 1843.

Through these groups, the Wesleyan Church has a rich history of proclaiming the message of Jesus and for social action, including pressing for the abolition of slavery and the rights of women.
