"Abnormal Lay People" in Atlantic District
by
Kathy Shanks, Bethany Bible College

Follow-up from last month's article Is the Word "Normal" Just a Setting on the Dryer?

Did you know that our district is full of abnormal people? Could that be because we have such an "abnormal" District Superintendent? You can find these abnormal people doing things that just don't seem "normal" however they add value to our church life and our Christian walks. Last month we took a look at people whom God has called from the midst of their careers into ministry. Is that normal or abnormal? The secret is be willing to allow God to bless you no matter what your perception of normal is - be willing to be "abnormal" for God!

Let's take a peek at some of the abnormal things people are doing in our district. We'd love to hear from you. See below for details.

Olivet Wesleyan

Bill Moore (The Fourth - Billy John to many of us ) - Store Manager - Pharmasave
Billy was raised in Zambia where his parents Bill, Joyce and brother Peter served as missionaries. Hel has had many unique opportunities to minister to people around the world from Zambia as a child to the Arctic when he worked for 3 years with the North West Company. He has also served in the Army Reserve. He has worked on Caton's Island for 5 summers. He is looking forward to participating in one of our Atlantic District Mission trips where he will have an opportunity to witness to people of Guatemala in March. Bill graduated from University with an Honours Degree in the Bachelor of Arts Program. He volunteers many hours to Olivet assisting with youth and young adult ministries. Bill is a dynamic man who is always on fire on the Lord and ready to serve wherever God leads!

Kings Valley Wesleyan

Barb Glauser - Certified Financial Planner - CIBC
Barb leads a small group ministry with her husband Tom. Barb is also a certified care clown - a volunteer for Hospice. Her clown name is "Sparkles". Sparkles brings therapeutic humor to many hospital patients and their families as well as nursing home residents. She is a very pretty and sparklie clown but you should see the size of her feet - now they are abnormal!

Natalie Beamen - Mother of 3

Natalie recently gave up her full time career so that she could spend more time at home and dedicate more time to Children's ministries at the church. She not only helps run the programs - she actually writes many of the lessons and finds very creative ways to demonstrate them. Natalie is also very gifted in design as it relates to décor and props for the children's centre. She also directs DVBS each summer and be assured that it is a very unique week - way outside of the 9 dots! One summer Natalie painted and designed her family van to advertise the DVBS theme. Now that’s abnormal!

Three Season Ant - Chris Stephens, Chris Lozier , Kevin Doiron, Anthony Moore

A dynamic group of four young men that God is using to minister all over North America! Even though these men have busy, successful full time careers they never miss an opportunity to minister on evenings and weekends. They recently have been blessed with being the recipients of four Covenant Awards:

“Worship song of the Year, New Artist of the Year, New Group of the Year, Rock Album of the Year “

The covenant awards are presented by "CMC" - the largest distributor for Canadian Christian Artists. Three Season Ant have also been nominated for the 2005 East Coast Music Awards in the secular division “Rock Recording of the Year” - What a tremendous yet abnormal ministry!

I Timothy 4:14 “Do not neglect the spiritual gift within you, which was bestowed upon you through prophetic utterance with the laying on of hands by the presbytery.”
