What's Happening At…
Olivet Wesleyan Church, Fredericton, New
Brunswick
"The Advent Season was great this year at Olivet! Our youth favoured us with
many specials and a wonderful Christmas message on Sunday morning November 30th.
We are blessed with many talented young people who also help with worship
weekly, and we have a youth led morning worship service monthly
(intergenerational services).
The children's play/cantata was super! Entitled: Meet Me at the Manger -
they presented it Saturday night and Sunday morning Dec. 13 and 14. The
children's choir is also singing with the LaPointes at the Playhouse on the 16th
and 17th.
Each year we have an Advent Wreath and change the cloths on the Cross to
coincide with the season. We had scheduled a Blue Christmas service for those
who have recently suffered a loss but it was cancelled due to the storm. We also
have a Christmas Eve candle-lighting service and White Gift Christmas Offering
for pastors.
This year we again hosted the Samaritan's Purse Christmas program for the
Fredericton area totalling about 4,500 boxes. We Participated in the Food Bank
non-perishable food drive, had a mitten drive, provided Thanksgiving and
Christmas dinners for a local 'Girls Shelter'-(also weekly donations of personal
items like shampoo, soap etc) and we had a special offering for the Robinsons
(missionaries).
We also enjoyed a Christmas Family Celebration with many specials, guest
musicians and treat bags for all the children. Additionally our ladies auxiliary
spent one morning sewing for missions. This year we purchased new Christmas
decorations for the sanctuary and thanks to the generosity of one member, we
installed new flooring in the Fellowship Hall.
We recently installed ceramic tile in the kitchen, purchased all new window
coverings for the sanctuary, installed hi-speed wiring throughout the church and
are currently in the process of completely revamping our children's ministry
room to accommodate FaithWeavers with a platform, store, sound booth, video
monitors and computer system. We also had several fund raisers and are sending
19-20 young people to Charlotte. In January we are hosting a "January Bible
Study" (Jan 25-29) featuring the ministry of Dr. Fred Wallis from Florida.
The Lord has been good to us and is among us."
Senior Pastor: Dr. Tom Ward
Note From the Editors: Thanks Tom. Great
to hear how God is blessing Olivet and how you are making a difference in
Fredericton.
Hillside Wesleyan Church, Cole Harbour,
Nova Scotia
"Over the last three weeks we've reached around
the world, across the street and into our pews. On November 30th we held our
annual Missions Conference with guest speaker Darcy Spady in the morning (3
baptisms) and the highest evening attendance ever for a missions event (115). A
two hour international banquet with food from five continents and a first-class
40 member fashion show interspersed with highlights from the ministry of Global
Partners and a powerful highlight from Lisa DeGrace as we were able to give over
$1300 toward the support of Hope House in Odessa. The next week we completed
delivering candy cane invitations to nearly 4000 homes in our community
promoting both our Christmas Cantata and our winter Alpha. Our Christmas Choir
Outreach on December 13-14, shared the Gospel with 449 people (+30%) in our
church and community (last year's outreach - 343, not double counting the choir
& support crew - which, of course, no pastor ever does). It's amazing what God
can do with a church that averaged 82 for the month of December in 1997! These
are good days to be a part of the Hillside family."
Senior Pastor: Peter Moore
Note From the Editors: Thanks
Peter. Sounds like some exciting things are happening at Hillside!

Harbour, New Brunswick
"For a pastor the Christmas is divided into two
seasons. The "church" season and the "family" season. There is some overlapping
but there is also a need for distinction. The church activities this
Christmas were very encouraging. A Ladies Tea, choir presentation, Sunday School
Concert, caroling and the Christmas Eve service were highlights. This was a
wonderful Christmas for our family, the best ever! Roxie and I had our entire
family home. It's amazing how one plus one equals eight."
Senior Pastor: Bruce Cheney
Note From the Editors: Thanks, Bruce. I love the math!
Digby Wesleyan Church, Digby, Nova Scotia
“These past few weeks have been most
interesting! The Christmas season was wonderful, very busy and extremely
meaningful! Pastor Jason has stepped into the senior pastor role for the past 6
weeks while Pastor Brock takes a little breather till January 4th. Jason has
proven to be more than capable, proving he is one of the top leaders in this
district. Under the leadership of Pastor Jason and Pastor Chuck the church has
not only weathered the storm but has come out stronger and more resolved! Pastor
Brock will take back over the reigns on the 4th and looks forward to a long,
effective and more powerful ministry here in Digby. The Lord has a plan and we
are extremely excited about what lies ahead. Keep us in your prayers as we turn
the page on this new era!”
Senior Pastor: Brock Symonds
Note From the Editors: Thanks, whoever wrote this!?
