Gannett Rock and Light
by Hazel Mullen Owens

Way out in the Bay of Fundy,
Many miles from shore,
Stands “Gannett Rock” and “Light House”
You’ve seen it o’er and o’er.

God put it there we dare to say,
In His great noble plan,
And had the Light established,
To guide sea-faring man.

How faithful have the keepers been
Down through the passing years;
The flashing light at intervals,
Has quelled the seaman’s fears.

Legend tells us, many a life
Was lost on this rocky knoll;
And during dreadful storms at night,
Waves took their awful toll.

Now, signals, on and off, the light!
It’s beams glow full and free;
A comfort, to our fisher-folk,
Who earn their bread at sea.

A lesson may we learn dear friends,
From “Gannett Rock” and Light;
May we too, shed some rays of truth,
And guide souls to the right.

If “Gannett Light” would cease to shine,
What loss of life and boat!
But how much greater tragedy,
If we let our light go out!
