12 Guidelines for Pastoral Transitions

1. Affirm people by being friendly and interested in their lives.
2. Take note of congregational strengths and weaknesses.
3. Recognize key leaders while you "spy out the land" for future leadership
   potential.
4. Develop and awareness of the church's unique personality.
5. Allow ample time to adapt to all your new surroundings.
6. Work hard to memorize names.
7. Prioritize the implementation of changes.
8. Applaud former pastoral leadership.
9. Do not live the present in constant comparison of the past.
10. Be yourself.
11. Be faithful to honour your day off.
12. Rest in His will.
