Silent No More!
by Ryan Farrell, pastor at Perth-Andover Wesleyan Church

October 25th was like any other fall Saturday except that I had the opportunity to attend the New Brunswick Right to Life provincial conference. This year’s conference was held in Perth-Andover and it’s theme was “Silent No More”. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, having never attended a Right to Life conference before. As I entered the building with some trepidation I was pleasantly surprised to hear the main speaker, Denise Mountenay, give glory to God of how He had called her out of darkness 16 years ago.

As she shared her testimony, she also shared valuable practical information about abortion. Some of this practical information is that…

  1. 1/3 of women who have had abortions are likely to repeat. The question: "Why repeat abortions?" The answers: Denial, feeling of unworthiness, and birth control.
  2. There are 27 possible physical complications from having an abortion. This does not include the emotional/mental ramifications.
  3. There are 28 studies that state that breast cancer can be caused by induced abortion.

Denise resides in Alberta with her husband and son. She is also the author of a book entitled Forgiven of Murder. The book shares her personal story and again practical information about abortion.

Silent No More is more then a provincial slogan. It is also a movement in the USA and Canada. Its purpose is threefold:

  1. To reach Post Abortive women who regret their abortions and are suffering from physical, emotional or spiritual pain, and to let them know help is available and they are not alone.
  2. To bring public awareness that abortion is harmful and dangerous to women and others, using recent scientific studies and exposing cancer link to induced abortions.
  3. To invite Post abortive women to join in speaking the truth about the negative impact of abortion and to write out their testimonies as evidence that abortion hurts women and kills children.

Other speakers at the conference included, Pastor David Ferrel (Andover United Pentecostal Church), David Hitchcock (lawyer from Fredericton), and Dr. Malcolm Card (pastor of the Woodstock United Baptist Church).

In the end I found this conference very practical and educational. The conference was challenging. It challenged me to be more bold for Christ and to truly stand up for what I believe. It was time well spent.
